Neutral Posture Office Chairs

Neutral Posture Office ChairsThe neutral posture position is the backbone of the Neutral Posture ergonomic chair. When properly adjusted, it provides the body with a natural, stress-free position allowing the muscles, tendons and ligaments to be in complete balance with each other. In addition, the vertebrae will become properly aligned equal distance from each other. This ensures that there is no pressure towards the front or the rear of the spine.

A zero gravity environment of the body was the basis if the research performed by Jerome J. Congleton*, PhD, PE, CPE, throughout the design, innovation and development of the Neutral Posture® ergonomic chair. The result is a superior product that supports the body in a neutral, stress free position. The muscles, tendons, and ligaments are supported in complete balance and the vertebrae properly aligned. Each of the 10 standard adjustments are designed for ease of use and maximum ergonomic value.

Back Height Adjustment: Sound ergonomics requires that a chair have a back height adjustment system that has good range and is easy to adjust. Our NPE chairs deliver on both accounts. There are no knobs, just lift the seat back until it clicks to the desired height. If you vary your postures from a trunk upright posture to various degrees of leaning back postures, you will find that the ideal point for lumbar support actually changes the further you lean, requiring a slight lowering of the seat back. That makes the no knob adjustment even more useful.

Chair Arm Height Control: A full 4″ of adjustment means we take care of about 95% of all workers in a typical population (based on height). Chair makers that provide 3″ or less of arm height adjustment are not only ignoring basic ergonomics, they are ignoring more than 20% or more of a typical population.

Control Arm Locations: Notice that all our controls are conveniently located very close to the chair seat pan, indicative of sound ergonomics…And the controls on our chairs that require any degree of exertion are engineered for downward activation instead of difficult or awkward exertions. Watch out for chairs that require your having arms as long and strong as a gorilla.

Seat Height, Seat Angle & Back Angle: We believe that separate seat angle and back angle adjustments are ergonomically superior for people who work for long periods in the seated posture. A recent fad in chair mechanism design is the “synchronous” platform. It suits some folks just fine, but others are frustrated by a mechanism that has a set of programmed angles and a predetermined relationship between the seat pan that never allows the occupant to sit in any of the postures that he or she prefers.

Neutral Posture utilizes pressure mapping to develop their ergonomic chairs. Pressure mapping enables engineers to determine seated pressure – the forced applied on the foam/chair when you are seated. This data is used to develop the optimum combination of molded, multi-density foam and contouring. The result is a chair that maintains a high level of comfort for a longer period of time. Basically you remain comfortable all day long.

Molded, multi-density foam and contouring allow you to sit “IN” the a Neutral Posture chair and not “ON” it. Orthopedic quality cushions are trimmed with advanced technology of “Cloud 9” knitted material that allows the foam to conform to the shape of each individual. Typical woven fabrics prevent this level of conformance. An independent lab study has shown a significant reduction in seated pressure when using a Neutral Posture ergonomic chair.

Some competitors simply place larger seat cushions and backrests on standard fames then roll the dice on warranty coverage. The Neutral Posture Big & Tall chairs are the result of years of design, research and testing in the fields of anthropometry (designs based on measurement data of the target population for a product), ergonomics and bariatrics by Certified Professional Ergonomists (CPEs).
